For Gascot “it was a gratifying experience”, in which he assures that he learned that when human beings come together for a common goal, differences in customs, religions and languages ​​are left behind.

“It really was very different from what they told me every time I mentioned that I was going to Qatar. When he did it, there were weird looks,” she recalled.

Andrea said that her experience “was very different because they treated the women with a lot of respect. We discussed this a lot among the volunteers. It was a very nice experience. They were always pending. It was really nice and pleasant to see that not everything is as they paint it”.

The young woman, a Geography student at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, played in her country’s Under-17 National Team.

On the other hand, Gascot highlighted the cultural richness of the sovereign Arab state and its religiosity. “I learned that the world is very diverse, and it is very beautiful when many people from different countries come together to create something. This was something memorable ”, he highlighted.

Born in Bayamón, she worked as a volunteer in seven World Cup games at Estadio 974. At the venue she carried out the work of “Spectator Service”, which consisted of helping fans who went to watch the games.

While she worked as a volunteer, FIFA took care of her accommodation, while she covered the other expenses, such as travel and her day-to-day life.

Andrea Gascot enjoyed volunteering at the world’s biggest sporting event because, even though she was working, she got to see her favorite players.

“I had to work a lot with the viewers. Making them feel comfortable, having a very beautiful and memorable moment in the game they were watching.

The young woman was in the matches Mexico-Poland, Portugal-Ghana, France-Denmark, Brazil-Switzerland, Poland-Argentina, Serbia-Switzerland and in the Eighth Final, Brazil-Korea.

“They were good games. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the list. I saw most of my favorite players,” she added.

On the list he is talking about were the names of Lionel Messi, Guillermo Ochoa, Neymar, Thiago Silva, Kylian Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann.

In addition, he chose his favorite game. “I would tell you that the one in Mexico and Poland because it was the first and it was like: ‘Wow, I’m here,'” he recalled.
