The US authorities have increased the death toll to more than 50 as a result of the winter storm that is plaguing the country. The highest number of deaths have been reported in the state of New York, since at least thirty people have died from the wave of snow.

The scope of the storm has been unprecedented, affecting parts of the midwestern and eastern United States, according to CBS. Millions of people they have sheltered from the frost during the night and early morning, however, the storm has trapped some residents inside their homes due to accumulations of snow. It has also left thousands of citizens without electricity.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has claimed that is the “most devastating” storm in Buffalo historywhere about 100 centimeters of snow have fallen.

“I cannot overstate how dangerous conditions continue to be”Hochul has specified, urging residents to stay away from the roads at Christmas.

Although the weather conditions have improved during the day, more than 55 million people are under low temperature alertbeing the coldest December 25 since 1983 for cities like Miami, Tampa, Orlando and West Palm Beach.

In addition, more than 3,000 flights have been canceled on Christmas Eve, while this December 25, 2,000 flights have been canceled.
