The possible candidates for the presidency of Mexico in 2024 of the López Obrador party

The year 2023 will be the defining year for the candidates for the 2024 elections in Mexico to make their career and, although there are three names that sound the strongest and one of them especially, it has not yet been officially established.

“This year will be the year that we see (President Andrés Manuel) López Obrador and position himself in favor (of one of the candidates),” he said in an interview with the Efe Agency Khemvirg Puente, political scientist at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

In recent months, Sheinbaum has been seen touring various states of the country and also accompanying López Obrador in more events. “Claudia is the candidate, the spoiled one,” she considered in an interview with EFE Hugo Garciamarinprofessor at the Faculty of Political Science at UNAM.

Likewise, Puente said that “the decision has already been made unless there is an error or a mistake.”

Both experts agreed that the chances of Sheinbaum being the definitive candidate for the ruler National Regeneration Movement (Brunette) in the 2024 elections to succeed the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador They are very high, but the rest of the “corcholatas” remain so far in the front row of politics.

Garciamarín considered that it will not be until after the elections in the state of Coahuila and the state of Mexico (on June 4) when the president openly says which candidate he stands for.

Regarding the current president, they considered that despite the growing presence of the candidates until the 2024 elections, López Obrador will not lose prominence.

“The president will continue to have a very important activism and public presence,” said Puente.

Given the options and preferences of the different political actors and within the party, Puente foresaw that there will be a “schism” in the party although, he predicted, “they are going to say publicly that there is total harmony.”
