Brazil will have a record trade surplus in 2023, according to exporters

Brazilthe largest economy in Latin America, will have a trade surplus of 71,933 million dollars in 2023, 14.3% more compared to 2022 and a new record for the country, despite the fact that exports and imports will fall, according to projections released this Tuesday by industry sources.

The mark expected for next year will exceed that of 2020 when the surplus of the trade balance of the South American power was 61,223 million dollars, so far the largest in the country.

According to the Brazilian Association of Foreign Trade (ABC), although it will be a new record, it is a “negative” surplus because it is the result of the fall in both exports and imports.

According to the employers’ projections, exports will fall by 2.3% in 2023, from 332,825 million dollars this year to 325,162 million dollars.

The decrease will be sharper in imports (-6.2%), which will fall from the 269.9 billion dollars projected for this year to the 253.229 billion dollars estimated for 2023.

The war in Ukraine, the high interest rates in the United States and the problems that China is experiencing due to covid-19 can negatively impact the results of the trade balance.

Products such as soybeans, oil and minerals traded in the international market will continue to drive the Brazilian economy, with 35.7% of estimated exports for 2023, but prices may fall due to the aforementioned factors.
