The government of Argentina recommended this Tuesday to its citizens to evaluate the difficulties they might have if they plan to travel to Peru due to the current political crisis it is going through.
“It is suggested to Argentine citizens who are planning to visit the Republic of Peru in the near future, make the decision carefully, gather as much information as possible before starting their trip, and take into account the possible difficulties and unforeseen events that could arise both for their own compatriots as for their families”said the Argentine Foreign Ministry in a statement.
The Argentine Government recalled that in Peru “manifestations continue to take place and there are roadblocks and national roads that interrupt the normal operation of transport in all its modalities”.
The statement reports on the limitations in airports and rail transport due to the state of emergency due to the serious political crisis that began after the removal of former president Pedro Castillo.
Last week, Argentina, Mexico, Bolivia and Colombia questioned in a joint statement the dismissal of Castillo and the assumption of Dina Boluarte, demanding that the “citizen will” expressed at the polls.
On December 7, Pedro Castillo carried out a failed coup in Peru, which caused the Congress of the Republic to dismiss him and subsequently arrest him.
Since then, demonstrations have been held in various parts of the country. This has generated, so far, the death of 27 people and dozens of injuries.
The protesters demand the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, the closure of Congress, the calling of general elections and a constituent assembly.
