In the dark, without heating or water: this is how a Ukrainian family survives in kyiv



Stairs and dark corridors that illuminate as best they can with the mobile flashlight until they reach the fifteenth floor, because the elevator has rarely worked for weeks. Once at home, darkness and cold surrounds them. So survive in kyiv without electricity or gas Alexandra and her two children, Konstantin and Vasilina.

With candles and mobile lanterns they manage to light up and, at dawn, get up to take advantage of a couple of hours of electricity and charge your devices for the rest of the day. Going outside is dangerous, but inside the house the days are heavy: “I read even if I have to do it with a flashlight,” explains Alexandra.

Being able to feed is another odyssey, because to eat hot they have to resort to a campig gas. “Now there’s water, let’s go!”, they celebrate when, at least for a while, they have water again: “Normally when the power goes out, the water also goes out,” says Alexandra.
