Iran executes first person sentenced to death for participating in protests

Iran announced on Thursday the first execution of a prisoner sentenced to death for participating in the protests that have shaken the country since mid-September. Mohsen Shekari was executed early this morning after he was sentenced to death on 29 November for “war against god”.

The convicted man was accused of creating terror in Tehran, wounding an Islamic militant with a knife, and blocking a street. All this led to the sentence of “war against God”, which is not always punishable by death, but in this case.

Mohsen Shekari confessed during the trial that he had received “payments” for attacking law enforcement officers and therefore stabbed the militiaman, who required 13 stitches after the attack. judicial authorities 11 people have been sentenced to death up to now for their participation in the mobilizations and thousands to prison sentences.

First public execution in Afghanistan

For its part, Afghanistan carried out its first public execution on Wednesday since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021. The defendant was convicted of the murder of another man.
