The scientific journal The Lancet has highlighted the high level of protection generated by the Russian single-dose vaccine Sputnik Light in a new article published on the publication’s website, announced the Russian Direct Investment Fund (FIDR), which distributes the drug .
FIDR indicates that The Lancet experts concluded that the single-dose vaccine that Russia registered last May has “a high safety profile” and “induces a potent response, both humoral and cellular.”
“Most of the adverse reactions observed during the study were mild or moderate. No serious adverse reactions were detected ”, according to the specialized journal.
Until now, Sputnik Light has been licensed in more than 15 countries and is in the approval process in another 30 countries.
Previously, the creators of the vaccine from the Russian Gamaleya Center, based on data obtained from 28,000 participants in a study in Moscow, that the Sputnik Light vaccine administered independently has an efficacy of 70% against the infection by the Delta variant of the coronavirus during the first three months after vaccination.
In people up to 60 years old, the vaccine is 75% effective, the Russian scientists said.
At the same time, the effectiveness of Sputnik Light as a booster dose against the Delta variant for other vaccines it is equivalent to the efficacy demonstrated by the Sputnik V vaccine: more than 83% against infection and more than 94% against hospitalization.
Sputnik Light has shown superior efficacy to some two-shot vaccines, which have seen their protective capacity against the Delta variant reduced to less than 50% five months after immunization, according to Gamaleya.
The FIDR recalls that the Russian single-dose vaccine has already shown an efficacy of between 78.6% and 83.7% in elderly people, according to Argentine health sources.
Meanwhile, the Paraguayan Ministry of Health affirmed that Sputnik Light had an efficacy of 93.5% based on data obtained during the ongoing vaccination campaign in that country.
Russia currently has four vaccines against COVID-19: Sputnik V, EpiVacCorona, CoviVac y Sputnik Light.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov confirmed the day before that Spuntik Light, due to its high effectiveness, can be used for both initial vaccination and revaccination.
According to the creators of the preparation, Sputnik Light can also be combined with foreign vaccines and serve as a booster dose to improve the immune response against the coronavirus.
