The Council of the European Union approves a EUR 18 billion aid package for Ukraine

The package was adopted by the Council of the European Union by written procedure on Saturday. It will then be submitted to the European Parliament for adoption as early as next week.

– Ukraine can count on the EU. We will continue to support Ukraine, also financially, for as long as necessary. The regulations adopted today mean that Ukraine can count on regular financial assistance from the EU until 2023, said Czech Finance Minister Zbynek Stanjura.

The European Union has approved an aid package for Ukraine

As reported by the EU Council, “the package provides for a structural solution aimed at financial support for Ukraine in 2023”. The amount to be lent to Ukraine will amount to EUR 18 billion, and the loans will have a 10-year grace period.

“Member States will cover most of the interest costs from external assigned revenues. Guarantees for this loan will come from the European Union budget or from Member States,” the EU Council said in a statement.

The aim of the package is to provide short-term financial assistance to finance Ukraine’s immediate needs, the reconstruction of critical infrastructure and initial support for sustainable post-war reconstruction, with a view to supporting Ukraine on its European integration path.

The White House will donate $275 million to Ukraine

The White House also announced the transfer of further funds as part of the aid package for Ukraine. It’s about $275 million. On the Department of Defense website it is written that in this tranche the US will transfer additional missiles to HIMARS systems, 80 thousand. 155 mm caliber artillery shells, about 150 generators, as well as anti-drone and field equipment.

This is the 27th US aid package for Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war, the United States has provided Ukraine with $19.3 billion in aid.
