Unicef ​​plans to assist some 110 million boys and girls in 155 countries in 2023

Unicef ​​plans to assist some 110 million boys and girls in 155 countries around the world by 2023, a task for which the UN agency for children will need more than 10 billion dollarsas announced.

“Today there are more children in need of humanitarian assistance than at any other time in recent history,” UNICEF executive director Catherine Russell said in a statement, warning of the “deadly mix of crises” – conflict, disease and malnutrition— faced by children.

This situation has worsened throughout 2022 due, among other things, to the war in Ukrainethe growing food insecuritythe devastating floods in pakistan or outbreaks of cholera and measles in various regions.

Crises and conflicts have driven nearly 37 million children around the world from their homes, a level not seen since World War II.

As part of the humanitarian plan, Unicef ​​plans to offer treatment against malnutrition to 8.2 million children, measles vaccines to 28 million, access to drinking water to 63.7 million people or education to 25.7 million minors.

The crises that require greater investment, according to the agency, are Afghanistan (1.65 billion dollars), Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees (1.058 million), Syrian refugees (867 million), the Democratic Republic of Congo (862 million) and Ethiopia (674 million).

In total, donors are being asked for $10.3 billion to fund the agency’s humanitarian programs through 2023.
