In the second half of the match between Uruguay and Portugal, an unusual event occurred so far in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, a fan entered the field with various messages.
It was Mario Ferri, a 35-year-old man, who entered at minute 51 carrying an LGBTI flag and on his shirt had messages alluding to the war in Ukraine and respect for women in Iran.
The activist carried out this act in a country that does not allow displays of affection between people of the same sex in public. In the same way, in the World Cup, several people have been prevented from wearing t-shirts or messages in favor of LGBTI rights.

FIFA has not yet ruled on the sanctions that the fan could receive, however, the Criminal Code of Qatar does mention them.
Article 290 establishes that whoever makes “gestures, dares to say or sing immoral things or to perform an infamous act in a public place or an open space is sentenced to no more than six months in prison and a fine of no more than three thousand rials (more than 800 dollars), or one of these two penalties”.
It is unknown if Perri has already been released. (YO)
