Ukraine announces new prisoner exchange with Russia

The Ukrainian government reported this Saturday the release of nine soldiers and three civilians who were in Russian captivity, in what is the third prisoner exchange with Moscow in a week.

“We managed to free twelve of our people. Among them, four soldiers from the Navy, two national guards, two border guards, a member of the Territorial Defense Forces and three civilians: husband and wife and a man who was reported missing,” announced on his Telegram account. head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak.

According to Yermak, the military had been captured during the siege of the coastal city of Mariupol (southern Ukraine), at the Chernobyl nuclear plant, which Russian forces occupied for a month in spring, and on the Island of Snakes, in the Black Sea.

The head of the Presidential Office added that, with this exchange, the number of Ukrainian prisoners of war exchanged with Russia in one week rises to 98. “We are working to free all our people. We will not stop”, concluded Yermak.

For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that nine Russian soldiers were returned this Saturday “from the territories controlled by the kyiv (sic) regime.”

Last Thursday, 50 prisoner-of-war soldiers from each of the sides were exchanged, while on the eve Moscow and kyiv exchanged 35 Russian troops for 35 Ukrainian soldiers and one civilian. (YO)
