Müller on the EU gas agreement. First he said that Poland was safe, then about optimization

On Tuesday, during a press conference, government spokesman Piotr Müller was asked about an agreement – What I can say is that from the very beginning Poland and other countries with which we were building some kind of alliance were against top-down reduction targets binding for all countries and here we count on it that it was realized, so was the project this morning – he said.

– I would like to emphasize that for us, for the Polish authorities, the most important thing is to ensure Polish energy security, but it also results and allows us to act in an appropriate manner from the EU treaties. The national security clause, the elementary security clause, is also a provision that excludes the application of many other provisions – he emphasized. – Summing up, Poland will be able to make decisions in this respect in such a way as to ensure its security, but of course, if there is a need to take any action to support other Member States, we are open to it, but it is a matter of individual talks, but just like I emphasize that at the beginning, the priority is to secure Poland’s interests – emphasized Piotr Müller.

Government spokesman: There is no risk of gas shortage

The politician also assured that there is no risk of a lack of gas supplies in Poland. – Of course, any decision by Gazprom to limit supplies to Europe may result in an increase in the prices of energy and gas – he said. – The risk of gas availability in Poland has been limited due to the fact that we have an LNG terminal, Baltic Pipe and full gas storage facilities, which generate an appropriate level of security – he added.

Piotr Müller was also asked what the reduction of gas or energy consumption would involve. As he emphasized, the offices will treat issues related to thermal optimization with a higher priority. – Each director general of offices and other state institutions is aware of this that issues related to thermal optimization and energy consumption are very important – he said. It wasn’t just what was happening now, he added, but it was always an essential aspect. “I am convinced that the right officials will take appropriate action here,” he said.

There is an agreement in the EU on the gas emergency plan

On Tuesday . Compromise agreements were reached by the ministers responsible for energy of the 27 member states at a meeting in Brussels. The Czechs, who are in charge of the work of the Union this six months, have informed about the political agreement.

It is about the plan presented last week by the European Commission. It is intended to limit the risk in the event that Russia decides to completely stop gas transmission to Europe. And it is taking further steps in this direction – Russian Gazprom is suspending the operation of another turbine in the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline to Germany. The gas flow will be only about 20 percent. possibilities.

The objection of many countries, including Poland (but also, for example, France, Spain or Portugal), sparked the 15% target of reducing gas consumption between August 1 this year. and March 31, 2023

Ultimately, the original proposal from the European Commission was watered down. There are no mandatory reductions for all countries in the event of a state of emergency when the situation worsens throughout the Union. There are many exclusions and derogations.
