China calls Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan a “complete farce”


Russia defends that Pelosi’s visit “reflects the same line” by Washington regarding the “situation” in Ukraine. The EU, for its part, has insisted on the need to “avoid miscalculations” and has stressed its commitment to the “one China” policy.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi condemned on Wednesday the visit to Taiwan by Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the US House of Representatives.

Wang has described the visit as “complete farce”and has warned that “Those who play with fire will not end well, and those who offend China must be punished.”

The Chinese minister has accused the US of “violate China’s sovereignty under the guise of democracy”, and has declared that, even if Taiwan leans on the power of Washington, “it will not change the international consensus that there is only one China in the world”.

The Chinese foreign minister will coincide this Wednesday with the US secretary of state. in the Cambodian capital at the meeting of foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its partners, but both are not expected to hold a two-way date.

Also participating in the meeting will be Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, who has argued that Pelosi’s visit “reflects the same line” on the part of Washington regarding the situation in Ukraine, and has stressed that the United States has “a desire to show everyone its impunity”.

The European Union, for its part, has not commented on the visit to Taiwan, but it has insisted on the “need to reduce tension through dialogue and avoid calculation errors” in the Taiwanese Strait.

The EU has stressed its interest in “preserving peace and the status quo”, and has said that member states “remain committed to the ‘one China’ policy”.
