The Ministry of Infrastructures of Ukraine has informed this Monday of the departure of a first ship with a cargo of grain from the commercial port of Odesa, on the Black Sea, according to the Ukrainian portal Ukriform.
According to that medium, which cites ministerial sources, the freighter travels under the flag of Sierra Leone and heading to the port of Tripoliin Lebanon, with 26,000 tons of corn ukrainian
Shortly after, the Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed the ship’s departure, following the agreement reached at the end of July between Russia and Ukraine, separately, to enable the unlocking of Ukrainian grain.
“It has been agreed that the ship reasonwhich sails under the flag of Sierra Leone and carries a load of corn to Lebanon, will leave on August 1 at 08:30 a.m. (05:30 GMT) from the port of Odessa,” reads a statement released by Defense on its website. Maritime monitoring programs such as Vesselfinder and MarineTraffic show that the ship has started to leave the dock almost an hour late and shortly before 07:00 GMT (09:00 in the Basque Country) it has passed the lighthouse that marks the port entrance.
According to the aforementioned programs, the ship is scheduled to arrive at istanbul at 18:00 GMT on Tuesday.
Turkey acts as a verifier of that agreement, in which that country acted as a guardian together with the United Nations, and also directs the control center established to watch over the operations.
The purpose of the agreement is to once again enable Ukrainian grain exports and alleviate the global food crisis aggravated since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, last February.
