On June 24, the 27 leaders of the EU member states approved the European Commission’s recommendation on the new members of the alliance. and Moldova then became officially candidate countries to join. Candidate status is only the first step on the way to the EU. The next one will be the start of accession negotiations.

On this matter, the consent will have to be given unanimously by the Member States on the basis of the reports of the European Commission on the progress in meeting the conditions. The negotiations themselves can take years. However, Ukraine has already taken steps to implement seven recommendations related to efforts to join the European Union. Work and talks between the Ukrainian side and European politicians are also ongoing.
– Ukraine’s task is to fully implement all recommendations by the end of this year – announced the deputy head of the Ukrainian President’s Office Ihor Zhovkva.

Ukraine wants to meet EU recommendations by the end of the year
Ukraine should introduce European regulations in the economy and all other areas of life. The parliament is to pass laws on which a relevant resolution of the Supreme Council has been passed. According to it, each adopted act will be carefully considered in terms of compliance with the legal criteria.
– The implementation of these recommendations is not the only requirement or condition that will bring us closer to membership in the Union. We must talk about the introduction of European Union regulations in the spheres of the economy and, in general, about the introduction of the European style in all spheres of public life in Ukraine, emphasized Ihor Zhovkva.

In Ukraine, the head of the specialized anti-corruption prosecutor’s office has already been appointed, as well as a competition commission to elect members of the Supreme Council of Justice. By a decree of the President of Ukraine, the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to establish the register was implemented.
Work on the draft media law compliant with EU directives has also been completed and a draft law on national minorities has been prepared. The deputy head of the President’s Office announced that they meet all the requirements of the European Commission recommendations.
Natalia Forsyuk, director general of the Ukrainian government office for European integration, said that the negotiation procedures for joining the EU could start as early as 2023. In turn, Ukraine can count on joining the European Union not earlier than 2029.
