Huawei said sanctions prevented the company from dominating the market along with Apple
Huawei called US sanctions the main factor holding back the development of the corporation. This is reported by the publication PhoneArena.
Huawei CEO Richard Yu said that the sanctions have decisively affected the balance of power in the smartphone maker market and hindered the company. “Had it not been for US intervention, Huawei and Apple could have become the world’s largest phone makers,” said a top executive at the corporation. Thus, the company compared itself to Apple.
Huawei also assessed the influence of Samsung in the smartphone market – the company called the Korean IT giant a “small manufacturer”. According to Richard Yu, Samsung smartphones are mainly in demand in the South Korean and US markets. A spokesman for the Chinese corporation said in a statement that Huawei would have overtaken Samsung and instead dominated the world if not for US restrictions.
PhoneArena journalists pointed out that calling Samsung a small manufacturer is wrong, since Huawei has spent years catching up with a competitor from South Korea. At the same time, the authors recalled that at the end of 2020, Huawei received a 19 percent share of the global smartphone market and indeed overtook Samsung, which had a 17 percent share.
At the end of April, it became known that Huawei significantly increased the cost of developing and researching new technologies. In 2021, the corporation invested more than $22.1 billion in research and development, which is more than any company outside the United States.
