Xiaomi equipment was under threat of a ban in Russia

Mash: Xiaomi was required to take away the right to sell equipment in Russia

Xiaomi may be banned from selling equipment in Russia. The Mash Telegram channel reports such a threat.

The journalists spoke about the appeal to the Moscow Arbitration Court of the Hong Kong company Smart International Distribution Limited. Representatives of the company demanded to give them the rights to the Xiaomi brand in Russia. The company said that they own the global Xiaomi trademark – under it, dishes, jewelry, accessories and appliances are produced.

According to Mash journalists, representatives of Smart International Distribution Limited may complicate the work of Xiaomi in the region. If it turns out that the court takes the side of the plaintiff and takes away the rights to the brand from Xiaomi Corporation, then it will become more difficult to import equipment into Russia. SIDL will also have the opportunity to sue product importers.

It is specified that representatives of the arbitration court turned to the Chinese authorities with a request to help sort out the situation. The case was adjourned to August.

In October 2021, the Moscow Arbitration Court banned the import and sale of 61 Samsung smartphone models in Russia as part of a patent case. In March, the Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal overturned an earlier ban imposed by a lower court.
