An innovative market for the time

The iPods were delivered with 20 CDs chosen by Steve Jobs himself, who explained in the presentation why he decided to get into the music market. At the end of his presentation, he told the press that Apple had prepared 250 iPods ready for each of them to take home to test (then they would have to return them).

However, the world of music was very different from now. There was no online music purchase yet on iTunes, so Apple did not have the license for those songs, therefore, the company was forced to buy the 20 CDs for each journalist to “rip” the songs to the album and so do not infringe any copyright.

The story was made known thanks to the Japanese freelance journalist, Nobuyuki Hayashi, one of the guests at the event. The communication professional revealed which were those 20 CDs carefully chosen by Steve Jobs, who combined music for all tastes. (YO)
