Apple slashes tablet production dramatically

Apple has responded to the chip shortage by cutting back on iPad production. Reported by the Nikkei agency.

The American company sharply reduced the production of tablets and directed the resources of contractors to release the iPhone 13. Several sources told reporters about this. IPad production has been cut 50 percent in the past two months. The company also decided to sacrifice the release of old iPhone models in favor of new flagships.

According to insiders, Apple decided to do this, as the company predicts increased demand for smartphones amid easing coronavirus restrictions around the world. Redirecting resources to the iPhone assembly is made possible by the fact that Apple smartphones and tablets have a number of common components.

The journalists recalled that this is not the first time the American IT giant has sacrificed the iPad in favor of the iPhone. In 2020, the company also redistributed partner resources towards smartphones to minimize the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the iPhone 12 series devices.

In late October, investment banks JPMorgan and Needham predicted an iPhone shortage due to a global chip shortage. According to analysts, the waiting time for new models of iPhones is one of the longest in recent years.
