TrendForce: Smartphone sales will decrease in 2022 due to COVID-19 and inflation
Smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2022 fell by 12.8 percent. This is reported in the report of the analytical agency TrendForce.
The company’s specialists found that in the first three months of 2022, smartphone manufacturers shipped about 310 million units of devices to the market. Compared to the previous quarter, the decline was 12.8 percent. Analysts predict that in the second quarter, the decline in supplies and the contraction of the market will continue.
The main reasons for the decline in production rates, the agency’s specialists called the new outbreak of COVID-19 in China and the restrictions associated with it. In the second quarter of the year, the crisis in Ukraine will affect the pace of global inflation, due to which consumers will be less likely to purchase new devices.
The TrendForce report says that for the whole of 2022, about 1.3 billion units of smartphones will be delivered to the market. Analysts also believe that the forecast may be revised downward.
The agency said China remains the world’s top smartphone market. At the end of the year, it will account for 21.1 percent, India and the United States will take the second and third positions, which will receive shares of 13.1 and 11 percent, respectively.
Earlier, Russian retailers said that sales of smartphones in April fell by 30 percent. The top three most popular device manufacturers are Samsung, Xiaomi and Realme.
