May 17 is International Internet Day and this year older people are the biggest protagonists. In addition, this Tuesday the PuntuEUS Foundation celebrates an anniversary: 10 years have passed since the request for the .eus domain.
Problems in understanding and using new technologies affect a group that adds up to more than nine million people, and represents 20% of the population. In addition, as a result of the pandemic, the use of new technologies has grown and has become an essential tool for carrying out online transactions.
For this reason, numerous Spanish companies, institutions and social organizations have drawn up a manifesto and a Decalogue to “facilitate access and use of digital technologies for the elderly”. Among the decalogue of measures that they propose, they recall the legal obligation of accessibility and absence of barriers in the devices.
Also, on this year’s Internet Day the PuntuEUS Foundation celebrates that ten years ago they applied for the .eus domain to ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. The Foundation will remember those last 10 years, taking into account the path that the .eus domain has taken and the evolution of the Internet.
In 2014 the .eus domain started with 92 web pages, and today, there are already more than 13,000 registered domains.
