Samsung announces UFS 4.0 flash memory standard for smartphones
Samsung has introduced the new Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 4.0 memory standard for smartphones. This is reported in Twitter companies.
A distinctive feature of the new generation of memory is the ability to transfer data at speeds up to 4200 megabits per second. According to the engineers of the corporation, this option is useful for productive smartphones with 5G support, as it will allow you to quickly download a large amount of data.
The throughput of the standard is up to 23.2 gigabits per second per line, which is more than twice as much as the previous UFS 3.1 format. Samsung representatives noted that the flash memory of the announced standard is also more energy efficient – by about 46 percent. Thanks to this, the battery life of the devices will be increased.
The company said that the engineers also managed to reduce the size of the drives. If the dimensions of UFS 3.1 modules were 11.5x13x1.0 millimeters, then the maximum size of UFS 4.0 drives is 11x13x1 millimeters. Flash memory of the new standard will be available in various options up to 1 terabyte. Samsung intends to start mass production of new drives in the third quarter of the year.
In November 2021, Samsung introduced LPDDR5X RAM for smartphones. The new standard is designed to work with artificial intelligence, 5G, metaverses and will be applied in smartphones of the future.
