The iPhone SE 2022 debuted in early March. It is undoubtedly not a breakthrough smartphone. Well, Apple sticks to the outdated design known from the iPhone 6, which will appear on the market over 8 years ago. We find here a huge, unused space around the screen, a physical button with Touch ID under the display and a single, tiny eye of the camera on the back. The specification looks a bit better. The device has, among others with the powerful A15 Bionic chip.
The biggest advantage, however, was to be the price of the device. The cheapest version of the iPhone SE 2022 (with 64 GB of memory) costs PLN 2 299 in Poland, which is much less than the cheapest of the iPhone 13 models.
The iPhone SE disappoints. Apple is restricting production
However, there are many indications that even a fairly attractive – by Apple standards – price did not encourage customers to take the smartphone by storm. Just weeks after the launch of the iPhone SE, Apple asked vendors to cut production in the current quarter by 2 to 3 million units.
According to a source cited by Nikkei Asia, the reason for this decision is “lower than expected demand”. Interestingly, the company was also supposed to limit the production of the iPhone 13, but in this case the reason is to be “seasonal change in demand”.
Nikea Asian reports are also confirmed by the well-known market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, which is probably the best informed source on all topics related to Apple. Kuo posted a post on Twitter in which he lowers his estimates of the new iPhone SE deliveries for 2022 from 25-30 million units to about 15-20 million units. The analyst emphasizes that the production limitation is due to low demand for the device.
