The Computer Security Incident Response Team of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF CSIRT) warned on Monday that they were sending SMS messages pretending to be

“Did you receive an SMS with the information about limited access to your bank account? Be careful – this is a new phishing campaign. Cybercriminals pretend to be Bank Pekao. They use fake websites to obtain login details for electronic banking” – we read on Twitter.

Paweł Jurek, spokesman for Bank Pekao, commented on the matter. “We do not send such SMS. Do not click on the link and do not enter your login details. Of course, this is not our website. Be careful” – he wrote on Twitter.

How to protect yourself from scammers?

The goal of cybercriminals is to obtain data and extort money or wipe a potential victim’s bank account. The most popular method is to get people to click on links or ads from search engines, from which they are then directed to, for example, fake bank websites.

“A crafted website, instead of allowing actual access to the bank’s transaction service, steals login data” – wrote Bartłomiej Pawlak on Next.gazeta.pl.

How to protect yourself from scammers? “Always carefully verify your bank’s internet addresses. Do not click on suspicious links from unknown sources. Do not provide your electronic banking login details to anyone” – wrote Jacek Barszczewski, director of the Social Communication Department of the KNF Office, spokesman of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority / UKNF. Also, be careful when someone persuades us to provide your details or make payments.
