They warn of an insect apocalypse: the population of these living beings has been reduced by half

A group of scientists has identified a clear and alarming link between the climate crisis and agriculture that directly affects the planet’s biodiversity, and insects account for 80% of the Earth’s biodiversity.

The insect population has already decreased by almost 50%, while the number of species has been reduced by 27%. These alarming figures are due to multiple causes, such as the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers, but there are three fundamental ones.

One is climate change.other the habitat alterations and another the chemical contamination and they produce synergies: “By acting together, all these factors produce many more problems than when acting separately,” Jorge Miguel Lobo, a researcher at the National Museum of Natural Sciences, explains to laSexta.

Although they may seem insignificant, the disappearance of insects affects us more than we think. The aforementioned expert warns that “it will produce very serious mishaps, such as the absence of pollinators.” But not only indirectly, there will also be consequences in the human health or food health.

Experts have concluded that in low-intensity agricultural areas, with less warming of the climate and close natural habitat, they only decreased by 7%, a more encouraging figure, although it is still dangerous.

The bad news that the studies show in this regard is that unless the planet reduces emissions, biodiversity will continue to suffer great losses.
