Elon Musk. He has hundreds of billions of dollars, but no housing. “I mostly spend the night with my friends”

There is no need to convince anyone that Elon Musk is not only a visionary, but also probably the most intriguing billionaire in recent years. Therefore, not only his business decisions are surprising, but also the information about his life, which he reveals from time to time.

He sleeps with friends because he has no apartment. But he has a jet

Elon Musk was invited to the TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) conference in Vancouver, where in an interview with Chris Anderson he answered some uncomfortable questions. The billionaire mainly explained the incredibly high-profile offer he made last week (he offered to buy the entire Twitter for 43 billion dollars), but not only.

Despite making a billion-dollar offer, Musk lives very modestly, unlike most billionaires. he owns no flat and usually stays with friends. “When I go to the Bay Area [nad zatokę San Francisco – red.]where Tesla’s engineering is mostly located, I mostly roam my friends using their spare bedrooms, “said the richest man in the world.

He noted that he did not spend billions on his maintenance, and the only luxury he allowed himself was his private plane, which he uses to move faster around the USA. He stated that when he doesn’t fly his plane, it means he has less work to do.

In May 2020, he sells “almost all his property” and no longer owns a home. A year later, it was revealed that he lives in a modular summer cottage (worth $ 50,000) in Boca Chica, Texas, which he formally … leases from SpaceX. The only real estate he owned at the time was an event house in the Bay Area.

Elon Musk’s “rough” childhood and “three years of hell”

The billionaire also admitted in an interview that his life was not always colorful. He explained that the first years of his life were not ideal (he was born in South Africa, emigrated to Canada at the age of 17, and then to the USA), and described his childhood as “rough”.

He also said that he was initially a bookworm, and understanding other people did not come as easily to him as it did to the rest of the children. As he revealed, in his childhood, spending the whole night on programming was an interesting form of spending his free time, which he does not consider normal from today’s perspective (Musk learned to program at the age of 10, and two years later he sold his first program).

that the years 2017-2019 were the worst nightmare of his life. The three years when Tesla struggled with production delays and Musk – as he himself said – actually lived in a Tesla factory, he described as “hell” and “a period of pain in his life.” In his opinion, however, there was no other option, and Tesla barely managed to avoid bankruptcy.

Musk wants to buy all of Twitter. Not for the money

During the same interview, Elon Musk also argued that “he can technically afford to buy Twitter”, but he does not want to do it for profit and has a different goal. He would like the social network to be a mainstay of freedom of speech on the Internet.

He added that in his opinion, the Twitter algorithm should be made available to the public to increase the transparency of the website’s activities. He would also like Twitter to introduce the ability to edit Tweets, but it would most likely have to be restricted for some time after publication. In addition, when editing the entry, all likes and retweets should be – according to the billionaire – reset.
