Analyst Kuskov said that after the departure of Nokia in Russia, it is necessary to prepare equipment for 5G
Denis Kuskov, general director of the information and analytical agency TelecomDaily, said that he does not see the possibility of replacing Nokia base stations with Russian counterparts in the near future. In Russia, there will now be one company that supplies equipment for mobile networks – this is Huawei. The analyst told Lente.ru about the consequences of leaving the Finnish manufacturer.
The Finnish company Nokia announced its withdrawal from the Russian market. However, despite the loud statement, the company’s management noted that it would provide the necessary assistance in supporting the networks. Denis Kuskov, general director of the information and analytical agency TelecomDaily, believes that Nokia will not suffer large losses from leaving the Russian market, since Russia’s share in the company’s business is about 2%.
Earlier, the Swedish company Ericsson announced its withdrawal from Russia. Thus, there is only one company left that supplies equipment for mobile communication networks to the territory of Russia – this is Huawei. How this situation will affect users in Russia, said Denis Kuskov, CEO of the information and analytical agency TelecomDaily.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have our own equipment and we don’t even have anything to replace it with now. On the basis of what is, it will not be possible to create your own, because this is such a symbiosis of software and hardware – this is the first thing. Secondly, it is pointless to create some kind of own equipment for current technologies, because they are leaving. We need to create equipment for the future, and here we look for an opportunity for the current equipment to work at full capacity,” says the analyst.
Building networks on someone else’s equipment is very expensive, so operators have stocked up with a certain amount of equipment, which will be enough for the current year. And in 2023 it will be seen what and how

According to Denis Kuskov, there will be no complete transition to Russian equipment and the departure of the last supplier.
“100 percent Huawei will not join Ericsson and Nokia. It’s just that maybe officially something like this will happen, but unofficial deliveries will still go on. It is not profitable for the company to leave: it is not represented in the United States, if it still loses Russia, then, most likely, supplies will go to the gray market, ”the analyst suggested.
In mid-2021, the Russian state corporation Rostec formed a vendor of telecommunications solutions for 4G and 5G, the expert recalled. The company was named Spektr and, according to Rostec, it is implementing the development of Russian 5G technologies. According to Denis Kuskov, CEO of the information and analytical agency TelecomDaily, Spektr is to present equipment for the fifth generation of networks next year.

“It is clear that in the next few years we will not be able to remove GSM, 3G and LTE. If 3G is removed to free up frequencies, then GSM and LTE will work for another 10 years at least. Therefore, we need to be able to use the current equipment and now our fifth generation for a ten-year period,” Denis Kuskov emphasized.
Cellular communications of the fifth generation are actively developing in China, South Korea, the USA and Europe. At the moment, analysts are talking about more than 200 million connections in the world. The main growth is observed in the PRC, where the fifth generation connection is observed in 11 percent of connections. No public 5G network has yet been installed in Russia.
