The app will no longer work on some older devices.
WhatsApp is constantly updated to offer security enhancements and other new features. This is why at a certain point, the app will stop working on some old devices.
The application announced that its messaging service will stop working on various smartphones. As of November 1, devices with Android version 4.0.3 or lower and iPhones with iOS 9 or earlier will no longer receive security updates and new features.
Phones that have Android version 4.1 or later will be able to continue using the app. In the case of Apple, an iPhone model with iOS 10 or later is required.
Models will no longer receive new updates:
Apple: iPhone SE, iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
Samsung: Galaxy Trend Lite, Galaxy Trend II, Galaxy SII, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy Xcover 2, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Ace 2.
Sony: Sony Xperia Miro. Sony Xperia Neo L . Sony Xperia Arc S.
For reference, the version of Android that will be affected is the one launched almost a decade ago and used by Samsung’s Galaxy SII. (I)
