Bloomberg: Apple will sell the iPhone and other equipment by subscription
Apple plans to launch a subscription service for devices – smartphones, tablets and other equipment. It is reported by Bloomberg.
Apple has been testing the possibility of launching the service for the past few months, according to company sources who asked not to be identified. The feature will allow users to subscribe directly to devices, not just digital services like Apple Music or iCloud. The project is in development – the company may announce it before the end of 2022 or postpone the announcement to 2023.
As Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman noted, the introduction of a subscription to the iPhone or iPad will seriously change the company’s strategy. At the moment, Apple sells its devices either at full price, or in installments or with subsidies from mobile operators. “This could help Apple increase revenue and make it easier for consumers to spend thousands of dollars on new devices,” Gurman said. Consumers will be able to trade in their iPhones for new ones every year, once the company releases the current model.
According to experts, the program will be associated with the Apple ID of a particular client, a certain amount will be debited from his account every month. Apparently, the amount of payment will be related to the type of equipment. Bloomberg noted that the iPhone is Apple’s largest source of revenue – in 2021, smartphone sales brought the company almost $ 192 billion.
Earlier, Counterpoint analysts said that sales of expensive smartphones in 2021 reached a record high. The segment leader was named Apple, which took a share of 60 percent.
