“The popularity of the premium market is driven by a combination of many factors, including demand for upgrades, manufacturers’ strategies and supply chain dynamics,” said Tarun Pathak, Research Director. According to the expert, demand was stimulated by the availability of premium phones in developed countries and the desire of consumers from developing countries to purchase a device with 5G support.

The segment leader was named Apple, which took a share of 60 percent. In 2020, the American company also led the market with a 55 percent share. Samsung is in second place with 17 percent, and Huawei is in third with 6 percent.

“Going forward, the premium segment, driven by replacement demand across markets, is likely to continue to grow and outpace the growth of the global smartphone market,” said Varun Mishra, Senior Analyst at Counterpoint. According to the expert, the popularity of foldable smartphones will stimulate further growth of the segment.

Earlier, Omdia experts said that Samsung Galaxy and iPhone smartphones were included in the list of the most popular phones in the global market in 2021. The most popular device on the market was the Samsung Galaxy A12.
