Daily Mail reporters say Apple made billions of pounds on chargers
Apple could have made over £5bn ($6.5bn) by ditching free accessories bundled with the iPhone. This is reported by the Daily Mail.
Journalists calculated the benefits of Apple after the company stopped packing its smartphones with charging adapters and headphones. According to experts, since 2020, the American IT giant could save about five billion pounds.
Specifically in the UK, Apple sells an iPhone charging adapter for £19 ($25). According to the disclosed data of analysts, the corporation saves about 27 pounds (35 dollars) on each smartphone sold. “It’s clear that Apple is saving on costs by ditching chargers and headphones when selling iPhones,” Ben Wood, an analyst at CCS Insight, told reporters.
The authors noted that the company does not disclose information about how much the IT corporation could earn on accessories. Its representatives stressed that the rejection of chargers and headphones is due to concern for the environment. “At Apple, we are constantly innovating to conserve resources and protect the planet we all live on,” an Apple spokesperson told reporters.
In April 2021, Apple said it had saved almost 900,000 tons of metal by ditching the free charger. Also, due to the reduction in the size of the smartphone box, 70 percent more iPhones can fit on shipping pallets.
