Estimated probability of blocking smartphones in Russia

Expert Samoylenko called the probability of blocking iOS and Android in Russia low

Blocking of smartphones based on iOS and Android in Russia is unlikely, but there is a risk of deleting applications. This is reported by the newspaper “Izvestia”.

Ivan Samoylenko, managing partner of the B&C Agency, in a conversation with media journalists, assessed the likelihood of a complete blocking of smartphones based on iOS and Android in Russia. The likelihood of phones being shut down is low, he said, but there is a risk of apps being removed from Russian versions of stores.

The expert advised, just in case, to prepare for a possible blocking – to save all important data from phones on backup media. According to Samoilenko, if the blocking does not happen, then the user will simply have a copy of important data.

The specialist also commented on the opinion that it is necessary to turn off the automatic update function on smartphones so that manufacturers cannot deactivate them: “This is a temporary measure, it does not give a 100% guarantee of protection against blocking.” Also, with regular updates, updates are downloaded to devices that eliminate vulnerabilities. In conclusion, Ivan Samoylenko admitted that smartphone manufacturers have incorporated a remote lock function into their devices.

In early March, Digital Media CEO Pavel Sinyakov explained the situation regarding the iPhone in Russia. According to him, Apple smartphone users can safely use their gadgets further: “No one will take away what you bought from you.”
