The social opposition to the military aggression of Russia and Vladimir Putin in Ukraine is huge. The problem is that transfer titles are not the best place to express them. Transferring money with, for example, the name of the aggressor’s leader in the title, can be considerably longer.
Transfers with the title offending Putin can cause problems
As since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Polish banks have noted many examples of insults directed at Vladimir Putin in the transfer titles. Transactions are usually carried out by private persons and direct them, for example, to organizations helping Ukrainians. As a representative of one of the Polish banks explains to the website, the system records thousands of cases of transactions containing such terms as: “Putin ch **” or “j **** Putin” – quotes BI.
This is one example of public opposition to Russia for attacking Ukraine. The problem is that money transfer titles are not the best place to express them. All due to the fact that transfers containing suspicious words are suspended when they are referred for additional analysis.
– Banks check transfers to prevent, inter alia, taking dirty money or financing terrorism using, for example, AML (anti-money laundering) procedures – explains the interviewee from BI. Therefore, when the algorithm detects one of the keywords in the transfer title, it suspends the transfer of funds and directs the case to the analyst who must manually verify the legality of the transaction.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and the local Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, are subject to sanctions by the EU and other Western countries. Even if – obviously – the transfer is not going to Putin himself, the bank must check the transaction containing his name.
The effect is that the execution of such transfers is often withheld by banks, so that the recipient waits longer for the money. Moreover, the verification of such messages distracts from the work of bank analysts who have less time to detect real fraud.
