Russia tested the “sovereign internet”
Russia was already testing disconnecting from the global internet in 2019. Such an operation was then carried out during a 30-day test. Russia has also adopted the law on the “sovereign Internet”, which aims to reconstruct the network structure so that Russian Internet communication runs through junctions inside the country.
It was explained then that thanks to the changes, the Russian Internet would function even if local operators would not be able to connect to foreign servers and would be better protected against cyber attacks. Critics of this solution assessed that it was an attempt to isolate the Russian Internet network and a violation of the rules of freedom.
