4 things you do on WhatsApp that are illegal

We do it every day and we have no idea what they are clearly punishable situations.

That is the case of one or another action when using WhatsApp, one of the most important messaging applications in the world.

Eduard Blasi, who is a professor and collaborator at the UOC’s Law and Political Science Department, spoke with The Newspaper of Aragon and revealed four behaviors that we make in the application and could pose a legal problem for us.

Some of them are for example:

• Disseminate images, audios or videos of a third person without their permission

• Send screenshots of another person without their consent

• Open a corporate WhatsApp group with people you don’t know

• Create a work WhatsApp group without the authorization of the members

Most of these actions directly or indirectly violate privacy of several people and also its confidentiality.

In Spain, the Data Protection Agency has imposed economic sanctions when disseminating audiovisual content of third parties such as recording and disseminating a police action or more serious cases such as sharing intimate photographs.

In the same way, sending third-party screenshots is a breach of data protection. (F)
