MWC 2022: Realme presents smartphones that are to conquer the higher shelf. The prices are good [PIERWSZE WRA¯ENIA]

The Realme company, although it was established only in 2018, is already one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in China and the fastest “growing” in Europe. In April 2020, the company hit the Polish market by storm, taking over quite a large part of it. Since then, Realme has also been growing in our country every month.

Now – during MWC 2022 in Barcelona – Realme presented its latest flagships – Ralme GT 2 and GT 2 Pro. Smartphones will face numerous high-end competitors on the Vistula River and – after a few moments spent with these smartphones – I must admit that they actually have a chance to be successful.

Light and quite handy

The first thing that catches the eye after taking one of the new Realme flagships in your hand is … the housing. It is not made of either metal or glass, but plastic. Realme is therefore going in exactly the same direction as many other manufacturers today.

I must admit, however, that both the quality of the materials and the workmanship are at the highest level. The back of the device is not covered with glossy plastic, but very pleasant to the touch, slightly rough material. The smartphone not only looks great, but is light and fits well in the hand (it does not slip out of the hand either, although it is quite large).

Realme boasts that the housing was made of a polymer based on biomaterials in cooperation with the Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa. In fact, smartphones look great and at the same time quite unusual. The only thing I can fault with the GT 2 version are the frames around the screen, which are quite large, noticeably larger than in the Realme GT 2 Pro.

The fastest processor on the market

One of the biggest advantages of Realme GT 2 Pro is the processor. The smartphone works under the control of the brand new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 made in the 4 nm process. It is the most powerful mobile system on the market today. According to Realme, the new GT 2 Pro “scores” over a million points in the AnTuTu benchmark (ie it is one of the few fastest smartphones in the world).

The weaker version without “Pro” in the name, in turn, works under the control of the well-known Snapdragon 888, which … is only slightly weaker. In both cases, we also have 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of data space or 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of space for user files. Regardless of the version chosen, we have a huge reserve of computing power in both smartphones.

Of course, there was support for all communication modules along with support for the 5G network. The whole is powered by a battery with a large capacity of 5000 mAh. Thanks to the charging power of 65 W, the energy in both smartphones can be fully replenished in 33 minutes.

AMOLED screen worthy of the top shelf

The second most important advantage of Realme GT 2 and GT 2 Pro are the screens. In both models, the manufacturer opted for a display that he himself calls Super Reality Display. This is an AMOLED panel with a diagonal of 6.7 inches with support for refreshing at a frequency of 120 Hz (in adaptive mode, i.e. automatically adjusting the refresh to the current needs) and high brightness of up to 1400 nits.

The difference, however, is the resolution of the screens. The Realme GT 2 Pro display has a resolution of 3216 x 1440 pixels, which translates into a density of pixels per inch at a very rare level of 525 ppi. In the cheaper Realme GT 2 we already have the much more common Full HD +.

Cameras and photo quality

Realme also claims that the GT 2 and GT 2 Pro are great smartphones for photography lovers. The main camera is a Sony IMX766 matrix with a resolution of 50 Mpix and a lens with f / 1.8 light and optical and electronic image stabilization (only electronic stabilization works for movies).

In addition, the user has at his disposal two other cameras – a wide-angle with a field of view of up to 150 degrees (50 Mpix) and an auxiliary lens (called by Realme a micro lens), which allows you to take macro photos in microscopic mode. Unfortunately, there is no camera with a telephoto lens, which can sometimes be bothersome.

So far, I have not had the opportunity to thoroughly test the camera’s capabilities. Nevertheless, the first pictures taken with the Realme GT 2 in good lighting conditions look very encouraging. You can see three example photos below:

Pricing and Availability:

Both smartphones will go to Polish stores and three operators (Play, Plus and T-Mobile) in just a dozen days. Realme GT 2 Pro will appear in Poland on March 8, and you will have to wait for the GT 2 version until March 15. The official prices of the devices are as follows:

  • Realme GT 2 (8/128 GB) – PLN 2499
  • Realme GT 2 (12/256 GB) – PLN 2699
  • Realme GT 2 Pro (8/128 GB) – 3499 PLN
  • Realme GT 2 Pro (12/256 GB) – PLN 3799

I must admit that the prices of all smartphones from the new GT series from Realme are relatively attractive. Of course, almost 3500 or 3800 PLN for the Pro version is a lot of money, but it is noticeably less than you have to give for many other flagships. And Realme GT 2 and GT 2 Pro nothing is missing.

Well, maybe apart from the possibility of inductive charging (although you can still fault the lack of a waterproof housing). Unfortunately, Realme forgot about these features, or at least wireless charging is something that should be in a high-end smartphone, and definitely in a flagship.
