The shortage in the video card market is caused by mining, as they are used to mine cryptocurrency, Pavel Sinyakov, an expert in the field of computer technology, told Lente.ru. He listed conditions that could lead to lower prices for computer components.
“I think if nothing dramatic happens to the cryptocurrency, that is, the authorities don’t say that we generally ban all this forever and put those who mine cryptocurrency, then most likely this situation will be the same as now,” shared he.
According to Sinyakov, the deficit is eliminated in two ways: either by falling demand or by increasing production. But the second option is unlikely, since the cryptocurrency market is quite spontaneous, and manufacturers are not sure about its future.
“Manufacturers are in a difficult situation. Firstly, there is a strongly increased demand due to mining, on the other hand, they have absolutely no idea what will happen tomorrow. That is, you build a certain excess number of factories with a margin for the future, and suddenly something happens with cryptocurrencies, for example, and all video cards become unclaimed, and your money invested in new factories does not pay off, ”he explained.

The prices for video cards are too high, as they are used as a means of producing cryptocurrency, the expert noted. In his opinion, their value may decrease if they cease to meet the requirements for calculating cryptocurrency algorithms, and new ones come to replace them. “Algorithms are getting better. It is possible that old video cards will slowly turn into a pumpkin, that is, they will not produce as many cryptocurrencies as before. New video cards will be required, but again there will be a shortage, again there will be a demand for video cards on new chips with new opportunities for mining cryptocurrencies. Then the demand for old video cards will fall, and the price will fall, and vice versa for new ones, ”said Sinyakov.
Earlier, experts from the antivirus software manufacturer ESET named a new popular method of stealing cryptocurrencies from crypto wallets, as well as illegal mining, based on non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
