Hybrid education promotes the use of technology in the classroom

Changes in the education sector continue steadily worldwide, where the incorporation of technology has been part of the process to support educational environments and didactic learning. In several countries, the school year is carried out under a modality that combines virtual with face-to-face, which represents a challenge for the educational community to integrate innovative equipment and new technologies that facilitate daily tasks under new learning schemes.

Classrooms became hybrid spaces with students present in the physical classroom and participants joining the class virtually from their homes.

Well-established tools such as interactive whiteboards, document cameras, and web cameras continue to be in high demand in education; while technologies that enable blended learning, such as collaboration tools and audio in classrooms, are also driving investment.

The goal for many institutions is to bring all of this together in an intuitive solution that provides the same experience for students regardless of their location. Madhav Jain, Insights Manager Education at Sennheiser, said at the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) fair in Barcelona that “the adoption of hybrid learning and new technologies for the effective delivery and consumption of courses has been a vital factor, added to the flexibility to adapt courses to constantly changing requirements. The hybrid model also opens new perspectives to attract remote students.”

According to experts, as educational units delve into this teaching modality, projectors and screens will be necessary to deliver creative content and engaging courses in the classroom. Similarly, the quality of images and content will be an even more crucial element in ensuring that all students can see the details and participate on equal terms.

“Interactive displays are especially useful because they offer touch screen capabilities and integration with the software most popular video conferencing services like Zoom and Microsoft Teams,” says Till Gotterbarm, Product Management and Strategic Partnerships EMEA at Avocor. “This allows teachers and students to easily connect and share ideas from anywhere. These screens also allow them to share real-time, cloud-based annotations with everyone in a class or study group,” he adds.

In this context, the Epson company offers projectors in Ecuador that allow teachers to find an ideal tool to teach their classes in images of more than one hundred inches and create an immersive environment focused on laser technology.

“An ally in this new scenario is the implementation of projectors in the classroom, offering institutions the possibility of using larger physical spaces while respecting the required distance, but without neglecting the perfect display of content,” said Juan Carlos Montalvo, Epson corporate specialist.

An example of this has been the Colegio Alemán Humboldt in Guayaquil, which decided to bet on interactive projectors for its classrooms, with a strategic plan that was more than five years old. The hybrid modality, based on students who are physically in the class and students who are at home, was an opportunity to show the importance of interactive projectors at the time of teaching.

Experts also point out that while students have been willing to embrace hybrid learning, the pandemic has also had an impact on how teachers respond to technology and its place in the classroom. “The way teachers view technology in the classroom has changed: before, most were reluctant to be videotaped; now, they use it to their advantage. Their needs have changed significantly,” says Alexandra Parlour, Director of Educational Marketing at Sony Professional Displays and Solutions.

Schools, colleges, and universities are finding new ways to enable faculty and students to teach and learn remotely, deploying technologies that support collaboration, and updating policies to support a more flexible learning experience. This 2022 will be the opportunity to demonstrate these new modalities. (I)
