‘Teo discovers cancer’, a story to understand childhood cancer

Cancer is one of those diseases that to understand and live with, we need strength and support. If for any adult it is a complicated situation, in the case of a child they need more affection and resources to understand the disease and its consequences.

In an effort to try to make this process easier the Association of Relatives and Friends of Oncological Children of Catalonia (Afanoc) and the Association of Parents, Relatives and Friends of Oncological Children of Castilla y León (Pyfano)together with Bayer, have published the children’s story ‘Teo discovers cancer‘ in which they explain this disease in an understandable language for the little ones.

The objective of this action is to get all family members involved in childhood cancer. In addition, talking about the reality of this disease in a “natural and without taboos” way and allowing emotions and sensations to “emerge” is one of the objectives of this story, according to Afanoc.

‘Teo discovers cancer’ is a resource for the little ones to understand the disease they have been diagnosed with and help them become familiar with the treatment they will have to follow, explains Begonya Nafría, the coordinator of the group KIDS Barcelonaone of the associations that have collaborated in the creation of this book, along with the Spanish Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology (Sehop) and the Planet Group.
