First iPod prototype revealed

The prototype of the first iPod was gigantic. This is reported on the Panic blog.

Collector Cabel Sasser revealed the first version of the original Apple player on his blog. Judging by the photo, the device is in a protective yellow case, which should hide the design of the first iPod. The case is several times larger than the resulting player. The prototype has four buttons that correspond to directions for navigating the menu. The device also received wheels to control playback.

In addition, a monochrome display and a connector for diagnostics and device control were built into the prototype. According to Cable Sasser, who showed the device in the photo, the design of the device was kept secret just before the announcement of the player.

Sasser noted that the prototype presented is extremely rare. The collector showed it to commemorate the announcement of the first iPod 20 years ago.

The original iPod with a physical jog wheel was introduced on October 23, 2001. The device received a drive with a capacity of 5 and 10 gigabytes, support for WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC formats, autonomy up to 12 hours. The player turned out to be one of the most popular Apple products.

Earlier, the organizers of the auction house Bonhams put up for auction a rare prototype of the Apple tablet. The device was created by the company between 1993 and 1995, but the device was eventually canceled by the head of the corporation, Steve Jobs.
