Jurek Owsiak has not had an accident. Beware of a new scam – you may lose your Facebook password

The latest scam circulating on the web shows how fast cybercriminals act when they adapt the form of attacks to popular passwords on the web. In connection with the 30th Final of WO¦P, we often searched for entries related to Jurek Owsiak’s foundation and to himself. The fraudsters decided to take advantage of this.

Another perfidious scam. They used the GOCC Final

CERT Polska informed about the threat on Twitter. Criminals spread false information on the web, and above all on social media, that Jurek Owsiak has had a serious accident. They claim that the founder of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity was hospitalized and that two other people died in the accident.

Posts circulating on the web include a photo of the site of the alleged accident and a link to the recording. It is to be available only to adults, and the age of the internet user would be confirmed by logging into a Facebook account. In fact, the link leads to a crafted scam page that mimics the login window of the world’s largest social networking site.

Of course, the whole story with the accident was made up, and the criminals perfidiously use the name of Jurek Owsiak and the GOCC finale for their actions. Their goal is to hijack Facebook login credentials, hence the email address and associated password, that victims would enter on a fake website.

Taking over your Facebook account can have very dire consequences. Criminals usually try to do this to send their friends links (under the pretext of sending a funny video, for example) leading to malware sites.

Sometimes, criminals use hijacked accounts to send requests for small loans to friends of the victim. They explain their requests with sudden problems, such as loss of wallet while away from home. If anyone asks you to borrow money via Messenger or other instant messaging, it is worth contacting them by phone and making sure that they really need help.
