Apple has urged users to update their iPhones to iOS 15, according to ArsTechnica.
The American company has stopped offering the iOS 14.8.1 update for the brand’s smartphones. Instead of a current update of the previous generation operating system, Apple announced the need to update devices to iOS 15, which was released in the fall of 2021. Thus, the company’s technical specialists are hinting that smartphones based on iOS 14 will no longer receive support in terms of security.
According to media journalists, there is a contradiction in Apple’s decision. “Giving users access to iOS 14 seems like a reasonable compromise to us,” they write. The authors noticed that instead, the company puts its consumers in front of the fact that the previous version of the OS will no longer receive security updates.
The material says that Apple should be more consistent in its statements, as earlier its representatives promised to support iOS 14 users with security updates. For example, iPhone customers running iOS 12 stopped receiving support only at the end of 2021. At the same time, the release of iOS 12 took place in 2018, and iOS 14 – in 2020.
In October, Apple released a new version of iOS and encouraged all users to download and install the latest update. In particular, the update fixes a vulnerability that allows arbitrary code to be executed with kernel privileges.
