HP has two families of gaming laptops in its portfolio. The first one needs no introduction. It is of course OMEN computers aimed at people who care about the top specification and as many FPS as possible in games.
in turn, it is intended for users who are starting their adventure with gaming and are looking for a device that offers the best price-performance ratio. Is it really so?
APPEARANCE AND SCREEN
The first thing I noticed right after taking the laptop out of the box is a modern and refined design. Sharp lines and eye-catching visual accents refer to the logo of the Victus by HP brand.
The computer is characterized by a slim casing made of scratch-resistant material. It also makes an impression extensive cooling system, which is to guarantee a relatively low temperature.
was equipped with a screen with a diagonal of 16.1-inch and Full HD resolution. The manufacturer used a matrix here IPSwhich guarantees a wide viewing angle and good color reproduction. The high refresh rate on the level also attracts attention 144 Hz.
SPECIFICATION and PERFORMANCE
The tested laptop is based on solid components. We’ll find a chip on board AMD Ryzen 7 5800, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, 1 TB NVMe disk and NVDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card.
In a gaming laptop, apart from strong specifications, reliable connectivity is also important. There is nothing worse than unexpected lags during the game in Fortnite.
Here, too, HP has thrown all the best into the Victus. It is the newest Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, gigabitowy Ethernet, as well as all the necessary ports for players – USB-C, USB 3.2, HDMI, SD card reader and minijack audio output.
As I mentioned at the beginning Victus by HP is not supposed to be a performance beast for the most demanding players, for whom every single frame of the image counts. This name is reserved for OMEN series laptops.
This does not mean, however, that the tested laptop has any problems with performance. It is quite the opposite. Thanks to the strong layout GeForce RTX 3060 i screen with a matrix 144 Hz it is the perfect machine for native 1920 x 1080 gameplay.
And a very smooth gameplay, as evidenced by the results that Victus by HP 16 achieved both in 3D Mark tests and in the games themselves.
In most titles, the number of FPSs on High settings and with ray-tracing turned off, it ranged from 70 to 120. In the case of Fortnite, GTA V and Halo Infinite it was about 80-95 frames per second, and in the case of Age of Empires 4, Forza Horizon 5 and Gears 5 – even 100-120.
Cyberpunk 2077 turned out to be the biggest challenge. Here on High settings Loser by HP 16 squeezed from 55 to 60 FPS. However, taking into account how demanding the production is for the equipment, this result should be considered at least satisfactory.
COOLING AND KEYPAD
It is worth remembering that – just like any gaming laptop – it can be really loud. When the graphics system is working at full capacity, the intense noise from the fans can take its toll. After all, a monster like the RTX 3060 needs to be cooled down somehow
Of course, we also have a silent mode, which will be useful, for example, when watching a movie or working with the Office suite, i.e. situations in which the computer gives a rest to the GeForce chip and uses only integrated AMD graphics.
The cooling system itself works very efficiently. Even during demanding performance tests in the 3D Mark application, GPU temperature it rarely exceeded the level of 70-75 degrees Celsius.
The 70 Wh battery will provide us with up to six or seven hours of work on the integrated AMD chip and about an hour and a half when the laptop is working at full capacity.
The keyboard also made a great impression on us. Usually, I connect my own keyboard to the gaming laptop. There was no such need here. The keys fit well under the fingers and have a sufficiently high pitch. They are also covered with a pleasant-to-touch material that eliminates the effect of slipping on the keyboard.
SUMMARY
is an excellent proposition for anyone who is looking for the first gaming laptop, and at the same time does not want to spend a fortune on it – the device can be bought for about PLN 6,000-6500. Thanks to the RTX 3060 card, a 144 Hz screen and an efficient cooling system, the laptop will ensure smooth gameplay in the latest titles for the next few years.
