The warning of the expert José Félix Hoyos on the evolution of COVID: “Vaccines are not enough”

The pandemic expert José Félix Hoyos has assured that talking about the “flu” of COVID is “the wrong message”: “This last week we have had thousands of people dead, the ICU services in some cases are at 50% occupancy”, highlighted the expert, who assured that “if this is normal life, what awaits us ahead is tremendous”.

In an interview in laSexta Noticias, José Félix Hoyos recalled that “desire is superior to what reality dictates”, and has called not to minimize the consequences of the sixth wave.

However, he has recognized that we are “entering a plateau“: “Probably, the detected cases are much less than the real ones, so we are on a slippery slope to be optimistic at all.”

In addition, the expert has assured that hospital pressure is not comparable to that of the first wave, although “we should have been more careful not to see this number of deaths that we have every day.”

Regarding the profile of people who are admitted for COVID with a serious condition, the ER has highlighted that “basically they are unvaccinated people, although there are also people who have two doses and very rarely have three”.

Do not forget that vaccines are not enough, that we must continue with the masks, with the distances and with the interior ventilation”, highlighted José Félix Hoyos, who has assured that we still have to be “cautious”.

The pandemic expert has also analyzed the case of children, who continue to get COVID, although in most cases, with less severity. “They are less likely to be hospitalized, they are less likely to become serious and even fewer die, but that does not mean that hospitalizations also increase with the rise in cases.”
