Up to 2 million households may lose access to digital terrestrial television. This is due to the change in the method of broadcasting digital terrestrial television in Poland. The receivers must receive the signal in the DVBT-2 standard.
– The change in frequency distribution means large revenues to the state budget – at the level of PLN 1,242 million – PLN 1,624 million. We want to donate some of these funds to support households. Every household that needs support in adapting to the change of the standard will receive it – in the form of a benefit worth up to PLN 100 for the purchase – explained Minister Janusz Cieszyński, secretary of state for digitization in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, quoted in the government communiqué.
Who, how and when will be able to submit a grant application?
An application for a one-time grant in the amount of PLN 100 can be submitted in the form of:
- electronic,
- traditional,
- by proxy.
After submitting the application, the eligible person will receive a confirmation of the benefit for the purchase of set-top boxes, which he will be able to use in one of the RTV stores that apply to participate in the program. will be available until the end of 2022. The benefit will be granted to one person in the household.
– Consultations on the bill will begin soon. We are counting on efficient work – so that the first funds can reach the households in need with the start of the first stage of the implementation of the standard change – said Minister Janusz Cieszyński.
Change in the method of broadcasting digital terrestrial television in Poland
From March 2022, changes in the method of digital terrestrial broadcasting will begin in Poland, as in other countries we will switch from the DVB-T / MPEG-4 system to the more effective DVB-T2 / HEVC. “The new digital television is the possibility to receive more TV programs free of charge, in even better picture quality (HD / UHD)” – reads in a statement published by the government.
The change that will be introduced soon results from the need to allocate the frequencies currently used in the 700 MHz range for the development of high-speed Internet in Europe, informs the government.
In Poland, the changes will be implemented in four stages:
- stage 1: from 28 March 2022 – Dolnośląskie and Lubuskie voivodships.
- stage 2: from April 25, 2022 – Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Pomorskie, Wielkopolskie and Zachodniopomorskie voivodeships.
- stage 3: from 23 May 2022 – lubelskie, łódzkie, małopolskie, opolskie, podkarpackie, śląskie, świętokrzyskie voivodships.
- stage 4: from 27 June 2022 – lubelskie, mazowieckie, podlaskie, warmińsko-mazurskie voivodships.
