Apple intends to use cableless hardware in its stores to prevent device theft. Reported by the publication Patently Apple.
Reporters found on the website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) a description of a new technology that will prevent attackers from stealing gadgets from stores. Apple engineers have suggested using special retainers that hold the iPhone, MacBook, iPad and Apple Watch on the table. At the same time, the invented equipment does not prevent buyers from directly acquainting themselves with the products.
According to the description of the patent, engineers propose attaching a special rod to the tables, which at one end wraps around the body of the device. There is a strong magnet inside to keep the structure in the correct position. The mechanism may become longer, but it does not allow removing the smartphone or computer without damaging the device.
Apple engineers are suggesting the new hardware be used as an alternative to the metal cables that usually hold gadgets on display booths. According to journalists, this measure will help reduce the number of thefts in the Apple Store, which have become more frequent in recent years.
In October 2020, Apple accused GEEP Canada, a recycling company, of mass theft. Representatives of the company claimed that the contractor sold more than 100 thousand units of iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, transferred for processing under the contract.
