Chip shortage hit printers

Canon will start producing cartridges for printers without chips. This was reported on the company’s website.

The Australia and New Zealand subsidiary issued a statement announcing a change in the order of production of cartridges for printers and MFPs. Canon said that a global shortage of semiconductors hit the corporation and forced it to start production of consumables without special chips. The chips on each cartridge ensured its originality. Also, with the help of them, users received notifications that the supply of paint is coming to an end.

“Canon has started producing chipless toner cartridges,” the statement said. The company noted that this is a temporary measure and the production of conventional cartridges will resume after the shortage ends.

Canon representatives noted that the lack of a chip will have little effect on the functionality of the equipment. However, users will need to personally monitor the yield of each cartridge. Consumables without a chip will begin shipping in Australia and New Zealand in late February.

In December, sources among Apple partners said that the company was forced to stop production of the iPhone due to a shortage of components. As the authors clarified, usually in October, Chinese factories switch to 24-hour operation in order to increase the production of gadgets on the eve of the Christmas holidays.
