An old laptop does not necessarily have to be a bad laptop. Often one, relatively inexpensive change is enough to breathe a new life. Replacing a traditional HDD for a modern SSD is like a change from a toddler to a modern car – you can feel the difference from the first launch.

What will you get on the disk replacement?

The system, which has previously started in minutes, suddenly gets up in a few seconds. The programs open quickly and often the characteristic humming and tapping when saving files disappear – the SSD works completely silently.

A faster disk is not only convenience. SSD consumes less energy than an old type, so the laptop can work longer on the battery. It is also more resistant to shocks and falls – there are no delicate, mechanical elements that could be damaged.

How much does it cost and what to look for?

SSD prices have dropped in recent years. A good 240-256 GB disk will be bought below PLN 100. This capacity is quite sufficient for the system, programs and basic data. If you need more space, 512 GB disks can be easily bought for around PLN 150.

When choosing a disk, it is worth checking opinions and tests – not all SSDs are equal. The cheapest models can be slower when saving large files. Also check what disk format your laptop supports – most use standard 2.5 -inch disks.

A noticeable performance leap

The difference in action is colossal. The programs start several times faster, the system itself also turns on at an incomparable pace. Even ordinary internet browsing becomes smoother, because the system does not have to “wake up” disk from sleep.

The replacement of the disk is not particularly complicated. In most laptops, just unscrew a few screws to get to the disk. However, if you do not feel strong, each computer service will do it for a small fee.
