The Xiaomi Chinese corporation introduced a prototype of a smartphone with a removable lens. This was reported in the X company.
The company showed the phone at the MWC 2025 conference in Barcelona. The modular device invented by the Xiaomi engineers has a landing platform on the rear panel, to which a removable lens is attached using magnets. The corporation believes that such a decision will improve the quality of mobile photos.
The presented 35-mm lens received an aperture of F/1.4 and a sensor with a resolution of 100 megapixels. According to journalists of the WCCFTECH publication, these are indicators unattainable for the camera. Also, the accessory does not require additional power – the lens receives energy from the smartphone battery.
The company also noticed that users can have several lenses for different tasks and change them if necessary. The Modular Optical System magnetic platform provides an extremely low delay in transmitting data from device to camera. Xiaomi said that data can be transferred at a speed of up to 10 gigabits per second.
Representatives of the Chinese IT giant did not clarify whether a similar smartphone would ever appear on sale.
In early March, the price of the most expensive Xiaomi smartphone in Russia became known. The flagship 15 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and four cameras were estimated at 149,990 rubles.
